Acetic anhydride is derived from acetic acid anhydride, the molecular formula is (ch3co) 2O, often abbreviated as ac2o. It is one of the simple organic anhydrides. It is often used as acetylating agent or dehydrating agent in organic synthesis. At room temperature, acetic anhydride is a colorless liquid, which reacts with the water in the air and emits a strong taste of acetic acid. It is a precursor chemical.
In case of acetic anhydride leakage, the personnel in the leakage contaminated area shall be evacuated to the safety area immediately, and irrelevant personnel shall be prohibited to enter the contaminated area and the fire source shall be cut off. It is suggested that emergency personnel should wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical protective clothing. Reasonable ventilation, do not directly contact with the leakage, to ensure safety in the case of plugging. Spray mist can slow down volatilization (or diffusion), but do not spray water directly on the leakage or leakage point. It is absorbed by activated carbon or other inert materials, and then collected and transported to the waste treatment site for disposal. If there is a large amount of leakage, it should be collected, transferred, recycled or disposed of innocently.
Disposal method of waste acetic anhydride: incineration is recommended.
Protective measures against acetic anhydride leakage:
Respiratory protection: when the concentration in the air exceeds the standard, you should wear a gas mask. In case of emergency rescue or escape, wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
Eye protection: wear chemical safety glasses.
Protective clothing: wear work clothes (made of anticorrosive materials).
Hand protection: wear rubber gloves.
Others: shower and change clothes after work. Pay attention to personal hygiene.
